Lesson, payment and cancellation terms

The practical terms for online tuition with Lamplit English Studio. The parent or legal guardian is the contracting party.

Lessons

Unless agreed otherwise in writing, an individual lesson lasts 60 minutes and costs US$75. Tuition may include lesson planning, personalised materials, homework, detailed homework review and progress feedback. A free introductory consultation is not a lesson and does not create an obligation to purchase tuition.

Scheduling

Lessons are arranged directly with each family and normally take place at the same time each week. The date, time and time zone shown in the confirmation email or calendar invitation are the authoritative booking details.

If a student joins late, the lesson will continue but will normally finish at the scheduled time.

Online lesson arrangements

Lessons normally take place through Google Meet or another platform agreed in writing. The family is responsible for a suitable device, stable internet connection and access to the agreed materials. A parent or responsible adult should be contactable during the lesson.

Safeguarding recording

Every online lesson is recorded by Lamplit for safeguarding and to provide an accurate record if a safety concern or complaint arises. Recording is a condition of online tuition. A recording may include the student’s image, voice, shared screen and lesson chat.

Recordings are stored securely with restricted access for 90 days after the lesson and are then deleted unless a relevant concern, complaint or legal requirement means they must be retained for longer. They are never used for promotion.

Families must not make their own recording, photograph or screenshot of a lesson without prior written agreement.

Homework and feedback

Homework is set after every lesson and forms an important part of the Lamplit programme. It should be completed and sent through the agreed parent communication channel at least one hour before the next lesson. If it arrives later, it may not be possible to review it before the lesson. Please let Lamplit know if the work has been difficult or could not be completed.

Payment

Lessons are paid for in blocks of four, in advance, through Wise unless another arrangement has been confirmed in writing. Payment is due by the date shown on the invoice or payment request. Payment details are provided privately.

Cancelling or rearranging

Please give at least 12 hours’ notice if a lesson needs to be cancelled or rearranged. With at least 12 hours’ notice, Lamplit will offer a reasonable alternative subject to availability, or apply the payment as credit where rearrangement is not practical.

Where less than 12 hours’ notice is given, or the student does not attend, the lesson will normally be charged. Genuine emergencies and exceptional circumstances will be considered fairly.

Tutor cancellation and technical problems

If Lamplit cancels a lesson, the family will be offered a suitable replacement time, a full lesson credit or a refund. If a substantial technical problem is caused by Lamplit, the affected time will be added, rearranged, credited or refunded.

Educational outcomes

Lamplit provides carefully planned tuition designed to support progress, but cannot guarantee a particular grade, test result, school placement or rate of progress.
