Lamplit offers personalised English tuition for children and young people aged 6–16. Lessons can support students who are finding English difficult, strengthen particular skills, provide preparation for tests and examinations, or simply develop their English beyond the classroom.

I teach reading, writing, spelling, punctuation and grammar, vocabulary, poetry, phonics and English literature. Lessons can also focus on comprehension, creative writing, essay writing and preparing for school assessments.

Yes. I teach native English speakers as well as international students at every stage of learning English—from beginners developing their foundations to fluent speakers refining their academic reading and writing.

I have experience working with the UK National Curriculum, Cambridge International programmes, the US Common Core and Montessori approaches. Lessons can follow a particular curriculum or combine carefully selected materials to meet the student’s individual needs.

Every student begins with different strengths, interests and areas for development. I use these to plan an individual programme with clear learning goals. The pace, level of challenge, materials and homework are then adapted as the student progresses.

Each 60-minute lesson usually begins by reviewing the previous week’s homework in detail. We do more than check answers: we discuss each question, address misunderstandings and improve written work together. The remainder of the lesson introduces and practises new skills through clear explanations, guided activities and carefully selected materials.

Most students have one 60-minute lesson each week. More frequent lessons can be arranged when a student requires additional support or is working towards a particular goal.

Focused homework is set after every lesson to reinforce the skills covered. It is reviewed carefully in the following session, allowing me to identify progress and anything that needs further attention. Parents receive a detailed progress report after each four-lesson block.

We begin with a free introductory conversation to discuss your child’s needs, educational background and your goals for their lessons. The first lesson then allows the student and me to get to know one another while I complete a careful placement assessment and establish clear priorities for their individual programme.

Individual lessons cost US$75 for 60 minutes. This includes careful lesson planning, personalised materials, homework after every lesson, detailed homework review and ongoing feedback on the student’s progress.

Lessons are arranged directly with each family and normally take place at the same time each week. Lessons are paid for in blocks of four, in advance, through Wise. Please give at least 12 hours’ notice to cancel or rearrange a lesson; with less notice, the lesson will normally be charged.
