A safe, supportive place to learn
Every child should feel comfortable, respected and encouraged in their lessons. Their welfare is at the heart of how Lamplit teaches and works with families.
Care and professional standards
Ruaridh MacDermot holds a current Enhanced DBS check and has completed safeguarding training relevant to working with children.
Lessons take place in an appropriate working environment, with clear professional boundaries. Bookings and permissions are agreed with a parent or guardian, and communication follows agreed channels. Any direct communication with an older student is agreed with their parent. A parent or responsible adult should be contactable during lessons.
Lesson recordings
All online lessons are recorded for safeguarding, and recording is a condition of tuition. Students are reminded in age-appropriate language. Recordings may include their image, voice, shared screen and lesson chat.
Recordings are stored securely in Google Drive, with access restricted to Ruaridh MacDermot unless sharing is necessary for safeguarding, a complaint or a legal obligation. They are deleted after 90 days, unless a specific concern, complaint or legal requirement makes longer retention necessary.
Safeguarding recordings are never used for promotion. Families need prior written agreement to record or take photographs or screenshots of lessons.
Respecting your child’s privacy
Sharing student work or images publicly requires separate, optional parental permission. Children’s views are respected, and surnames, school names and family contact details are never published. Saying no or withdrawing permission will never affect lessons. Our privacy notice explains how information is handled.

You or your child can contact Ruaridh at ruaridh@lamplitenglish.com. Concerns are taken seriously, with information shared only where needed to protect a child.
Concerns about Lamplit can also be raised with the relevant local authority children’s services or safeguarding authority. In immediate danger, contact local emergency services (999 in the UK).
